Funeral directors emerged after the the War Between the States after embalming took place on the battlefield. Embalming began to take place in towns. Police Officers also emerged as the civilĀ  war Soldiers kept order while keeping their war uniforms on.

Do do it your self funerals can be done today. Unless you have a strong nuclear family, it will be hard to pull it off alone

The best way to make it happen is to use a funeral professional either a funeral celebrant, a funeral director or a funeral midwife to help with the home funeral This can lower cost as well and help you come in under the average cost of a funeral.

What if you could pay your last respects to someone who died and never step foot in a funeral home? Whether due to the economy or environmental reasons, do-it-yourself funerals are a growing trend.

Imagine having a funeral in your own home. It’s becoming a reality; people are learning how to assist others in preparing loved ones for a home funeral and green burial.

Years ago, home funerals were common; it’s slowly making a comeback as part of a growing movement where people are taking a more hands-on approach to death.
