bode well for funeral cost in Illinois. It points to payment of contract difficulties with the IFDA. It also eliminates a source of funeral education  for the general public on funerals and funeral cost. The Museum of Funeral Customs has been a contibution to funeral education and the funeral industry. One of the popular displays is the Lincoln Casket Replica.

According to an Illinois Historian in the State Journal Register Article.

“It does fill a need,” said Thomas Schwartz, Illinois state historian. “It showed both the science and the cultural symbolism we’ve crafted and how we’ve observed the death of a loved one. … The real strength of that museum was the cultural context of how all of this evolved over time.”

The IFDA sponsored museum is  most likely one of three funeral museums on earth, one in Springfield, IL, The Neatherlands and Houston.

This was a positive contribution of the IFDA to our culture. Too bad it is apparently may be  going away.

It appears that hundreds of thousands of  dollars was misappropriated from the IFDA Preneed Trust Fund to the museum of Funeral Customs in 2006 and 2007.
